This is a well worth it long read. I enjoy using Rumble to watch most of my favorite lefty content. I hope it holds up. Locals is a cluster and not very intuitive. My main concern about @Substack is that they will start curating content and that will lead down that slippery slope to censorship. I hope they stay at least mostly organic and that they don't tip the scales. People want honesty right now. That's why they're coming to Substack. I'm afraid that if Substack succumbs then we'll have zero places to go. Locals is not going to cut it.

Thank you! Did you see my recent article, about Substack picking winners? I think we're of very similar mindset here. https://open.substack.com/pub/indiemediatoday/p/not-you-too-substack-stay-out-of-promotion?r=539iu&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

For sure. It is partially the inspiration to write my open letter to Catherine Valentine. I'm all for having many voices out there, but not for tipping the scales to a particular agenda. If they do that, they'll become meaningless. We need a place to express thoughts and have discussions, not have our thoughts directed. For people who have thoughts, and original thoughts, curated landscapes are a difficult place to exist.

I updated the article to include an embed of that post under the section about picking winners - how did I not think of that already?

Frankly, as an artist, I think it’s best I try Mixcloud. Thanks for this!

Rumble’s UX is horrible—e.g. there’s no way to scrub, and when you try you lose your place.
