DMs Have Arrived at Substack. Can We Finally All Leave Twitter Now?

VERY excited to see today’s much-anticipated global rollout of Direct Messages for Substack users. You’ll need to update your iOS/Android App, and they reside in the Chat section of the app/desktop site. Substack does a better job describing it, so here is their post announcing the launch from this morning:
I have been one of the people loudly championing this functionality, as it’s the largest missing component to enabling more of a move away from Elon Musk’s censorship-bell-jar-bubble-fest that is Twitter (I refuse to call it X).
The hostility that Elon and the company he purchased have expressed toward Substack creators - for nearly a year and counting - whom are caught in the midst of a personal vendetta he has with this platform - which just does everything better than his does, have facilitated my desire to exit the platform. However, the lack of DMs were the biggest drawback and impediment in trying to convince other non-Substack writers and users on “The Bird App” to make the move to Notes and engage with a community I find to be more thoughtful, engaged and open to discussion.
That is no longer the case starting today, however we will have to wait for Group DM threads, which I am hoping Substack will add at some point (yes, I always have to ask for more!).
Next, I would like to see an improved Notes and post search - I would love to find the previous Notes I posted asking for DMs without scrolling infinitely. It would also be cool if the search crawled the CONTENT of the posts, not just the titles & subtitles (pretty sure this is all it searches now). Maybe even more detailed searches within publications?
A lot of the growth I’ve found over the past year is thanks to Substack and Notes. Here’s to the leadership and developers and product managers making stuff better all the time!
