Hunter Biden Laptop, Social Media, Censorship & AI ChatBots - Let's Have Some Fun!
Hey, ChatGPT, “write a 250 word article about the impact of the Twitter Files 7, the Hunter Biden laptop, corruption at the highest levels of government..."
Having some fun, we decided to get on the AI Chatbot train. If you haven’t heard about the ChatGPT AI chatbot sensation, check out this CNET article explaining it. We created a test account at https://openai.com/blog/chatgpt/, which has been all the rage in some circles over the past few weeks.
It’s free for now, while it’s in testing phase and it’s kinda cool. Some say it could eventually replace human writers, which is scary. All we did was enter the following exact phrase into the engine:
“write a 250 word article about the impact of the Twitter Files 7, the Hunter Biden laptop, corruption at the highest levels of government, government influence & overreach in social media & private businesses”
Here’s what it spit out. Pretty amazing that this took about a minute for the engine to write, as well as the clear political bias shown, in this case. We’ve made edits/commentary both in-line (using italics and strikethroughs), and provide additional notes/context below.
Would love to learn your thoguhts about all this. Bots, the laptop story, social media censorship, all or any of it!
“The Twitter Files 7, also known as the Hunter Biden laptop scandal, refers to a series of events that occurred in late 2020 involving a laptop purportedly belonging to Hunter Biden, the son of then-President-elect Joe Biden. The laptop contained a number of allegedly corrupt documents and emails [ adds: (and videos with minors performing explicit sexual acts)], including ones that appeared to show implicate Hunter Biden participating in illegal activities such as drug use [smoking crack] and influence peddling [10%% to “The Big Guy”].
The scandal had a significant impact on the 2020 presidential election and has continued to reverberate through the political landscape in the United States. It has led to widespread accusations of corruption at the highest levels of government and has fueled concerns about government influence and overreach in social media and private businesses. [It should absolutely be investigated thoroughly.]
Many have pointed to the role that social media platforms, particularly Facebook & Twitter, played in amplifying [and, more importantly, suppressing] the controversy. The files were initially circulated on social media by right-wing pundits and personalities (plenty of people to the left of Biden shared it intially, too, but the original person to reveal the info to the media publicly was Rudy Giuliani), who claimed that they showed evidence of corruption within the Biden family. Twitter faced criticism for not taking stronger action to prevent the spread of the files, which many believed to be part of a larger effort to undermine the credibility of the incoming Biden administration. Famously, Glenn Greenwald resigned from “The Intercept” over their refusal to publish his story about the laptop in October 2020.
The controversy has also raised concerns about the role that private businesses play in shaping political discourse. Some have argued that companies like Twitter have too much power to shape public opinion and that they should be more transparent about their decision-making processes. Others (authoritarians) have called for greater government regulation of social media platforms, arguing that they have become too influential in shaping public opinion and political outcomes.
Overall, the Twitter Files 7 scandal has had a profound impact on political discourse in the United States and has sparked ongoing debates about corruption, government influence, and the role of social media in shaping public opinion. It remains to be seen how these issues will be addressed in the coming years, but it is clear that they will continue to be a source of contention and controversy.
A few issues -
the use of the word “purportedly” to describe the laptop’s owner
“then-President-elect Joe Biden”
Biden was still the candidate challenging a sitting President at that time, NOT the “then-President-elect”
“Twitter faced criticism for not taking stronger action to prevent the spread of the files, which many believed to be part of a larger effort to undermine the credibility of the incoming Biden administration.”
interesting that the algorithm didn’t mention the much more important free-speech issue of suppressing the story, to the point of preventing it from being DMed between users., and instead defaulted to a “protect the powerful person” mentality, ignoring the potential that the accusation of corruption could actually be correct, but that nobody has been allowed to fully investigate it. Also, Biden had not yet won the election, so to claim it would undermine the credibility of the incoming administration isn’t exactly accurate. It was done as much to sway influence PRIOR to the election, to help people decide with ALL the facts about who the candidates, and their families, actually were. Even AI bots are inclined to protect the Biden family’s perceived name & reputation, in spite of a mountain of evidence indicating the potential for corruption - it’s WEIRD.

From Michael Shellenberger, one of the authors of The Twitter Files
"Key facts
1. FBI took Hunter Biden's laptop in Dec 2019 & knew it didn't come from hacking
2. FBI spent 2020 telling Twitter that a "hack-and-leak" involving Hunter would occur in Oct 2020
3. FBI was spying on Giuliani when he gave laptop to NY Post"
