Indie Media Award winning outlet is dealing with a sophisticated, multi-level hack to restore their website & continue operations.
**UPDATE 10/29/24 1:30pm ET: CN tweeted earlier today that they had restored the website but were still working on regaining access to the publisher. By noon ET they had that back and just published their first article back…

Indie Media Award honoree Consortium News, the oldest independent news site on the Internet, was hacked.
Currently, their URL is directed to a generic webpage that’s the default template page for setting up a new Wordpress website.
Saturday evening, DC time, around 9pm, when Consortium News posted this to their X page:
Then, they posted this update to their X account just after midnight ET:
This morning, after working with their web host, they provided a further update:
The site is still being redirected to a basic Wordpress template:
There is much speculation on who would want to hack Consortium News and why, but nothing is known at this time, but for now the focus will be on helping them restore their site.

You know Consortium News was doing good work to bring on the ire of the hackers... You gotta wonder if they have a Mosad connection.
Looks like two seperate attacks:
1. One on the WordPress site;
2. Another on the domain registrar account which allowed to transfer control of the domain. This allows to change nameservers and any other domain records.
